Fun with First Aid

There was Blood everywhere. The tea pot was short and stout, and bloody. The can opener was covered in the stuff, and so were Jack's pants. He hadn't made a sound, he just bled all over the place, with a smile on his face.(rhyming is fun.) It took us a while to find the cut because he was kind of a mess. but there it was on his left middle finger, and it was bleeding a lot. Well a lot if you ask his mom. I work in an ER and it wasn't bleeding that much, still it was bleeding more than i personally want my son to bleed. Jackson still hadn't complained to us about the condition of his finger. he looked at us wondering what the big deal had been. I wrapped his finger in a damp paper towel and we sat down. Then He got mad "dad, i want to crawl around. dad, look there is a cheerio on the floor . dad, mom went away. dad, Hi. Dad, let go of my finger. Dad, i want to play with that fork. Dad, whats this red stuff on my shirt."
The parents tossed around going to the ER and having them look at it. The real sad part here is it was a decision made based on economics instead of the health of our child. ( i am glad we didn't go there is no way the finger NEEDED stitches.) so we took turns holding his wiggling little body till he stopped bleeding. Then we got to put on his first band aid. now let me remind you all that this is not a little cut on his leg. We had to find a way to keep a band aid on the very tip of a one year old's finger. They didn't cover this in boy scouts or my EMT training. we gave it several try's we ended up using neosporin 2 band aids and about 2 inches of thin medical tape. that worked great. the band aids never stay on through the night but we aren't worried about that. this morning when i got home from work at 5:00 A.M. i found his band-aid from last night in his diaper. ( he must have been doing the Al Bundy all night) any way the kid is fine he has an ugly cut on the very tip of his middle finger and we got to have fun practicing crisis situations.

We haven't had australian scallaps for a long time. thanks for the reminder maybe we will. They are more of a summer thing. Listening to your play list I heard "fight for your honor" I told Lorelei if I ever had to fight for her I would but I probably wouldn't win.

What? You didn't think of taking pictures of your bloody child in the heat of the moment to post on your blog? Poor little guy. Remember when I had a really deep cut on my arm in England and dad just cut up bandaids and stuck my skin together instead of going in? I still have a scar.

I finished putting the collar on Jacksons pajama top. I can't believe I am actually doing this by myself. I hope they fit and look good!!

Get better Jackson!!!

Just hope and pray all you have to deal with is a cut finger. Knowing Little Jack, I think this is just the beginning.
